Jack Hume was a long-term member of the Heather & Thistle Society which he joined in 1955 two years after it was formed in Houston Texas. His contributions to the Society, the Robert Burns Club of Houston formed in 1984 and RBANA were immeasurable. In 2016 he established a poetry competition designed to encourage interest in and honour the legacy of Robert Burns. Jack’s photo is on the left below, and the trophy on the right.

The winner of the 2023 Competition was Jim Alexander of the Burns Club of Atlanta with his poem entitled “Epistle To My Grandson”. Jim was presented with the Trophy, a beautiful pewter quaich by Mark Ferguson, RBANA Vice-president on June 7, 2023, at the Burns Club of Atlanta.
